CANNON COLTS YOUTH FOOTBALL CLUB - CLUB PROFILE
Cannon Colts Youth Football Club
|

Cannon Colts Youth Football Club is a voluntary organization established to provide football
opportunities for the Youth of Wimborne, Ferndown and surrounding areas.
Cannon Colts Youth Football Club was established in 1992 with the aim of providing football for boys
in the Colehill area of Wimborne. The club took its name from Cannon Hill and the current club
badge features a cannon.
The Club was started with just one Under 10’s team formed by the now Life President Bill Laxton but
was joined the following year by an U12’s Ferndown team managed by John Rolfe. During the 1990’s
the mini-soccer format was introduced by the FA, this saw the number of teams increase as many
young children were introduced to football. Over the years the number of teams further increased and
today Cannon Colts Youth Football Club is regarded as one of the largest youth football clubs within
Dorset.
Cannon Colts Youth Football Club now has a very successful mini-soccer set up, represented by
teams at Under 8, Under 9 and Under 10 level, as well as 11 a-side representation at Under 11,
Under 12, Under 13, Under 14, Under 15 and Under 16, all of whom play in the Bournemouth Youth
Football League.
The Club also has a specific mini-soccer coach for the Under 7’s, with responsibility for development
of new players coming into Cannon Colts and preparing them for league competitions at Under 8.
Cannon Colts Youth Football Club requires all its managers/coaches to complete:
· A Criminal Records Bureau Check
· FA Level 1 Managers Course
· FA Child Protection Course
· FA Emergency Aid Course
Cannon Colts Youth Football Club was amongst the first to be awarded the prestigious “FA Charter
Standard Club” status by Dorset FA in 2002.
A major part of the Charter Standard Club status is to ensure that it safeguards all children from harm
whilst they attend its activities. All children have a right to protection. Cannon Colts Youth Football
Club will ensure the safety and protection of all children involved in Cannon Colts Youth Football Club
through adherence to the Child Protection guidelines that it has adopted and in its ongoing
development of the Club to maintain its newfound Charter Standard Club status.
Since 1997 Cannon Colts Youth Football Club has been staging the highly regarded East Dorset 6-a-
side tournament, a major activity within the clubs fundraising activities.
The Club has always placed a high level of reliance on Parents who are involved on a voluntary basis
in committee work, sponsorship, collecting subscriptions and fundraising, etc.
The club also benefits from generous sponsorship from a few local and loyal businesses for football
kit, etc.
