About Us
Cannon Colts Youth Football
Club is a voluntary organization established to provide football opportunities
for the Youth of Ferndown, Wimborne and surrounding areas.
Cannon Colts Youth Football Club was established in 1992 with the aim of providing football for boys in the Colehill area of Wimborne. The club took its name from Cannon Hill Plantation.
The Club was started with just one Under 10’s team formed by the now Life President Bill Laxton but was joined the following year by an U12’s Ferndown team managed by John Rolfe. During the 1990’s the mini-soccer format was introduced by the FA, this saw the number of teams increase as many young children were introduced to football. Over the years the number of teams further increased and today Cannon Colts Youth Football Club is regarded as one of the largest youth football clubs within Dorset.
Cannon Colts Youth Football Club now has a very successful mini-soccer set up, training children from the age of 5. We are represented by teams at Under 7's, 8's, 9's and 10's, as well as 11 a-side representation at Under 11's, 12's, 13's, 14's, 15's and 16's, all of whom play in registered leagues.
The Club also has specific mini-soccer coaches for the Under 6's and 7’s, with responsibility for development of new players coming into Cannon Colts and preparing them for league games at Under 7.
FA rules currently say that mini-soccer is played in a non-competative way. Game's are played for the enjoyment of the game, and as preparation for their time in competative football in later years. "
